Let calves suckle in the dairy herd for a number of weeks or even three month, till weaning. This very natural way of keeping cows and calves is practised by a number of organic dairy farmers in the Netherlands. For two Danisch researchers an excursion was organized to see six farms where different methods were practised. Different housing systems, different management, different way of separating calves and cows at weaning where shown and discussed with farmers. In the evening the research aspect of this system were pointed out and discussed in depth.
